Tabu to act in 'Chandini Bar' sequel
The film ‘Chandni Bar’ gave Madhur Bhandarkar just the right thrust to get into the league of A-list directors. The success also vested heavily on the versatile actress Tabu for her exemplary performance of a dance bargirl, which made her an actress to be reckoned with in the industry. In a way, both Bhandarkar and Tabu were equally responsible for the accolades the movie received, both from the critics as well as the audience. Sources confirm that a sequel is being planned and soon Chandi Bar 2 would hit the floor.
Interestingly, Madhur Bhandarkar watched Chandni Bar for the first time since its release nine years ago. A source close to the director said, "Madhur was watching Chandni Bar on cable television. He was struck by Tabu`s contribution to his film`s success. Off and on, he had been in touch with Tabu since then.”
On impulse, he texted Tabu at midnight and told her he had just watched Chandni Bar. Surprisin gly, she responded immediately. They spoke for hours, remembering the making of the film. Somewhere, the suggestion that they make a sequel cropped up. Tabu said, why not? And they began making plans.
On being asked, Madhur neither confirmed nor denied the sequel plans. He said, "Yes, I did connect with Tabu after watching Chandni Bar. She is and will remain a dear friend. But it`s too early to talk about any project."
Some insiders believe that Chandni Bar 2 will happen early in 2011.
Even as Madhur Bhandarkar gears up to make a comedy, he has decided to make a sequel to the 2001 film Chandni Bar. The film earned Tabu many accolades for her powerful performance. That film about the wretched life of a bar girl and her attempt to raise her son with dignity had ended ambivalently with the son killing the boys who had tormented him in jail.
Everyone felt there was scope to carry the strong story forward. So did Madhur. But he got busy with other projects. And besides, Tabu had, as usual, turned elusive. She has the reputation of totally immersing herself in a film, getting close to the director and then cutting loose completely.
